A water resource analyst discusses the biggest factors that affect Arizona’s water bills, both inside and outside, in comparison.

We are no strangers to the soaring summer temperatures as Arizonans, but some people forget that adding water to the rising temperatures also adds to that fact. At EPCOR, where I work as a water resource analyst, I frequently observe residents using more than twice as much water in the summer without realizing it until they pay their bill. A leak that costs more than$ 140 per month can waste up to 25, 000 gallons of water in a month on a leak that is larger than the pencil’s lead. &nbsp,
Water consumption can quickly rise during the hottest months of the year. I’ve seen it all, whether it’s from taking more frequent showers to beat the heat or filling a pool to water the yard more often.
More water may seem obvious, but it’s not. Water conservation doesn’t require significant lifestyle changes, whether indoor or out, depending on how much water is used. Many of the most efficient solutions are simple routines and adjustments that can save you a lot of water and a couple dollars as well. Conserving water reduces residents ‘ monthly utility bills in addition to protecting one of Arizona’s most valuable resources. &nbsp,

Easy Outdoor Water Saving Techniques

One of the most effective ways to conserve water, according to my research, is through landscaping changes. Some people are now switching to less-water-consuming turf or smart irrigation. Watering landscapes and plants in the morning or at night rather than midday will reduce evaporation and give plants more liquid to reach their roots. &nbsp,
Check your automatic sprinkler system regularly for leaks or puddles if it has any. As sprinklers can shift, manage spray areas that don’t need to be irrigated, such as sidewalks, driveways, or streets.
frequently check for leaks. Keep an eye on your programmed water filler; if you notice that it frequently runs, this might indicate a leak. I frequently advise pool owners to think about purchasing a pool cover because it drastically lowers evaporation and eliminates the need for water refilling.
Use desert plants that thrive in Arizona’s warm, dry climate. These plants will need less water, which lowers maintenance costs and conserves water over time. &nbsp,

Modifications for the home

Although making significant changes to outside landscaping can be made, the work is not finished. There are a number of indoor changes that can be made to reduce the amount of water used. &nbsp,
Summertime means that kids are at home, which frequently means more dishes and laundry to do. When you run a washer and dryer total of laundry, load up!
And take a five-minute or fewer shower! Up to 30 gallons of water can be used for a 10-minute shower. By cutting that in half, you can save more than$ 30 per person annually and nearly 5,500 gallons of water annually. &nbsp,
Finally, leaks can waste thousands of gallons of water.
To find a leak before it starts costing, I often inspect faucets, sprinkler heads, irrigation systems, and toilets. Check for leaks if your water bill has a remarkably high increase. Always seek advice from a specialist if you believe there is a leak and want it fixed as soon as possible. &nbsp, &nbsp,

Kits for preserving water

The majority of neighborhood water utilities provide conservation kits for a small fee or for free. Tools, resources, and resources on how to save water are included in these kits. &nbsp,
In the free conservation kit provided by EPCOR, we include items like a low-flow showerhead, sink aerators outdoor, hose nozzle, landscape watering guide, and many more. &nbsp,
I personally use a lot of the conservation kits, and it saves me money on my utility bill each month as well as helping my community and preserving water for upcoming generations. &nbsp,
Arizona residents or business owners frequently don’t realize they’re using too little water or that their home has a leak until they notice a significant increase in their regular water bills. &nbsp,
It’s as simple as contacting your water provider or sending an email to [email protected] to get a water conservation kit. &nbsp,

Why Use Conservation of Water

Water is necessary for everything, from cooking to cleaning and growing plants to drinking it. But it is frequently overlooked before it is gone. &nbsp,
The demand for water grows as Arizona grows. Conversations are ongoing regarding having sufficient water in the future. &nbsp,
To ensure there will be water for generations to come, businesses like EPCOR are examining the viability of alternate water sources like desalination and advanced water purification. &nbsp,
Conserving water, but, is what makes ensuring there is adequate water to meet both current and upcoming needs. The amount of water that needs to be treated and delivered is reduced by every gallon saved.
Make a few little changes around the house for yourself, your neighbors, and your loved ones. Any of these easy adjustments will help you keep money in your pocket while protecting a crucial resource. &nbsp,
