The Future of Sustainability in Arizona 2026, the magazine’s yearly event, was a waste that Green Living had to turn away from 90 % of. With over 100 attendees at the event, the entire day of panels on climate, water, and fresh energy buzzed. To ensure that the event’s impact was as near to zero as possible, Green Living Magazine and GreenLight Solutions worked together.
The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix held its second quarterly sustainability conference on April 23, 2026. Publisher Dorie Morales welcomed the crowd and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego opened the event. Panellists covered water security, fresh energy, and climate resilience. The Green Team served waste stations throughout the venue, straightened materials, and assisted attendees in figuring out where to dispose of waste to reduce impact.
Green event management in practice
Events that are responsible in themselves are a priority for Green Living Magazine. The Future of Sustainability in Arizona discussions generally focus on reducing environmental impact. Green Living aims to align the magazine’s mission with its operations, which is to educate and inspire others to lead more lasting lives. However, each and every event generates waste, consumes energy, and draws people from all over the region.  ,
The reductions in greenhouse gas emissions were similar to charging 7, 760 smartphones or skipping 245 miles of road travel because of recycling, composting, waste sorting, and recycling sweet plastics. Nine out of ten pounds of the material produced that day stayed in a landfill.  ,
How the Green Team sorted the trash
Spare diversion on this scale requires a person to be present at each sorting bin to catch mistakes before they endanger a whole composting batch.  ,
Most event recycling and composting initiatives fail because of contamination. A bad item in a compost bin can make the entire batch unusable. The Green Team’s task was to ensure that wasn’t the case, and their efforts succeeded.
Amelya Keo, the Green Team Lead, and event partners Denali and Goodmans Furniture coordinated that work throughout the day.
